Philosophers and Cities: Citizenship Paths for Europe

Philosophers and Cities: Citizenship Paths for Europe

Prof Fabrizio Lomonaco

The initiative aims to contribute to the formulation of a concept of European citizenship by identifying critical categories, from the perspective of the relationship between ancient, modern or contemporary thinkers, and their cities. In the current impasse of the European integration process it appears more necessary than ever to overcome the purely economic perspective, trying to recover the link between ideas, people and places. In this perspective the overcoming of the modern form of the Nation-State is no longer a negative process, but rather a further stage in European integration: the recovery of the relationship between the citizen and the city is not to be interpreted with a view exclusively regionalist but in that inclusive of the new European citoyen.
